They agreed to give up all submunition weapons after other nations (which had no steel rain) signed a treaty banning such weapons because they produce too many duds that remain on the battlefield and pose risks to civilians. Russia, China and Israel believed they had real wars to fight and ignored the treaty."

I have been reading the new book "The Angel: The Egyptian Spy who Saved Israel" by Uri Bar-Joseph.   1) typical Israeli propaganda account of an Arab spy: exaggeration of his contributions and usefulness. 2) this account proves that he in fact started his services in the Sadat era and NOT in the Nasser era as previous accounts had mentioned. 3) Israeli deep-seated racist distrust of Arabs helps the Arabs: they can never fully trust the Arabs even if he was working for them.  4) Sami Sharaf who worked for Nasser bears responsibility in hiring and trusting this guy.  It is clear even from this account that Nasser never liked Marwan and never trusted him.

Early in the Syrian war Western media were all too happy to refer to all Syrian fighters as "Free Syrian Army". The size and power of the non-existing army was highly exaggerated and the presence of the more powerful Jihadi groups was deliberately obscured by the cheerleaders of the FSA in the Western press.  Lately, when it is obvious that only Jihadi groups are doing the fighting say in Aleppo, Western media are all too happy to just refer to them as "Syrian rebels" thus obscuring their Jihadi ideology.

IT was rather hilarious watching Arab liberals (liberals in the Arab world has a very different connotation: it is basically a word given to whose puppets and voices of Gulf regimes who are not Islamists: you see there are two wings of Gulf regime mouthpieces) cheering the Inghimasi fighters among Syrian rebels in Aleppo.

The Jihadi rhetoric now distinguishes between two kinds of Jihadi fighters: 1) the Intihari is someone who is sent on a suicide mission with a suicide belt.  His mission is purely to detonate.  2) An Inghimasi (or the submerged fighter) is someone who is sent with different light weapons AND a suicide belt.  Ostensibly, the second kind is the best fighter of the bunch and is sent to engage the enemy until he finishes his ammunition and then he will detonate the suicide belt.  This is what we now have to learn in Middle East studies?
